Set before the turn of the millennium, Birthright is a free-form RPG centred around the lives of the people living in the fictional city of New Venice, a place emulating the culture and civilisation of 1889's New York, but set in an alternate universe. Anything can happen and the strange does, indeed, occur.

A large city on the coast of the Atlantic, New Venice is dealing with poverty, corruption and crime while struggling to keep up with the technological advances of the age. Zeppelins float across its smoky skies, above the bustling city where only newsies are louder than merchants.

MAIN PLOT POINTS
These are the two main plot points upon which the world of Birthright was built.
  • It is the dawn of a golden age of steam-powered vehicles, hot-air balloons and amazing discoveries. You can do anything with mechanics, it seems, maybe even more than people suspect. Yet the average New Venetian is busy enough with survival in a shoddy economy... technological advancement is left to the wealthy.
  • Throughout history, there have been certain events which were questioned by several scientists because they could not be explained in a logical way. From ancient Greece to the Renaissance, their existence has left an imprint upon history and civilisation alike. They are Wonders and their main objective... is to hide!
SUB-PLOTS
There are some premises set out by the times, by players themselves and other cool ideas that flow around Birthright. Feel free to do with them as you will, build character around them, mention them, shape conversations around them. In any case, they're there for you to play with and to enrich the world of Birthright.
  • The Beast of Kesky! Oh my! Various incidents have been reported all around the borough of Kesky. Considered ferocious animal attacks by the police, New Venetians are afraid to walk alone at night. Mothers forbid their children to go out after dark. Sounds like a true Sherlock Holmes mystery, if you ask me.
  • Vigilantes! Most people heard of the so-called Protectors, a group of superpowered individuals who thought they were above the law! While they don't threaten the streets of New Venice these days, reports are still coming in of Wonders taking the law into their own hands and punishing the so-called wicked. Or so some say...
  • Gang rule is in its prime. The Irish have grown strong and are trying to overpower the traditional Italian rule of the city while, in the shadows, the Jewish mob is scheming to get its own share of the influence throughout New Venice. The Ronkers have their hands full as it is!
